The 2nd edition of the Darraq 5K & Kids Dash was held on December 10, 2022. The event welcomed 446 runners with ages ranging from 69 years old, to as young as 3 years old in the Kids Dash!
The Kids Dash was a 1KM course running inside Yamamah Park in the Diplomatic Quarter where the kids under 12 years old ran with determination and finished with smiles as they received their medals. The 5K course was open to runners aged 12 years and above and started and finished at Yamamah Park, and ran through the Diplomatic Quarter trails.
A new course record was set by last year’s as well as this year’s winner in the men’s category, Mane Alotebe, who despite the weather conditions, finished in outstanding fashion with a time of 17:03.
Heavy rainfall and storms the night before and the morning of the event cast doubt on whether it would be held to plan. However, around noon, the sky cleared up and the organizers from Race Arabia were able to prepare the event area just in time to welcome the first arrivals from the Kids Dash.
The event was supported by a passionate group of volunteers from the neighboring King Faisal School who worked hard to guide, aid, and cheer on runners along the route.
And lastly, and most importantly, a special thanks goes out to the event owners from Dur Hospitality Company and Darraq, without whom this event would not have been possible.
